Asian Development Bank Logo Challenge

[Media release] A major design opportunity has opened for Pasifika creatives, with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environmental Programme (SPREP) launching a regional Logo Challenge to develop the official visual identity for Circular Pacific, a new multi-country recycling and circular economy initiative.
Led by ADB’s Water and Urban Development Director Neeta Pokhrel, the initiative calls on Pasifika designers, artists, illustrators and students to create a logo that expresses the region’s shared commitment to waste reduction, circularity and climate resilience across 14 Pacific nations. Designers can register their interest now with submissions opening 1 May until 30 June.
“Design has a powerful way of telling stories and bringing people together. We are excited to invite Pasifika designers to help us create a logo that reflects the spirit of a truly Pacific circular economy and the region’s commitment to a more sustainable and resilient future,” says Neeta Pokhrel.
SPREP Director General Mr Sefanaia Nawadra says the joint initiative looked to highlight behaviour to reduce waste reduction.
“Pacific island countries have long understood that waste is an environmental issue that affects the health of our people, livelihoods, and ocean. The Circular Pacific is a joint initiative to change our approach and behaviour by reducing waste leakage, improving resource recovery, building more connected recycling systems and a way for SPREP, ADB and our partners to contribute to our Leaders Vision for the 2050 Blue Pacific Strategy.”
He added through this challenge, Pasifika creatives have the opportunity to give visual expression to the project through a distinctly Pacific, practical, and future-focused logo.
The Logo Challenge is a key part of the Circular Pacific via Regional Recycling Network (CP‑RRN) Project, which aims to strengthen recycling networks, build producer accountability and support communities to reduce pollution affecting Pacific land, livelihoods and oceans.

The winning designer will have their logo become the official identity of Circular Pacific, gaining:
- A contract award with ADB of up to USD $20,000 to design the full project branding
- Paid travel, accommodation and per diem to join a regional event in a Pacific Island country
- Official recognition from ADB and SPREP
- Regional and international visibility across a multi-country programme
- Their logo adopted across 14 Pacific nations involved in the initiative
The challenge marks a rare opportunity for Pasifika designers to contribute directly to shaping one of the region’s most significant environmental programmes.
Why Circular Pacific matters
Pacific Island countries face serious challenges in managing solid waste, which threatens public health, marine ecosystems and climate resilience. While recycling offers opportunities to recover valuable materials and stimulate sustainable economic growth, many countries lack coordinated systems.
The Circular Pacific via Regional Recycling Network project aims to:
- Build a connected regional recycling system
- Support local recyclers and innovators
- Empower communities to participate in waste reduction
- Help Pacific nations meet circular economy goals
How might we create a compelling, culturally grounded visual identity that unites regional action and communicates solutions to growing waste challenges across the Pacific?
ADB and SPREP are encouraging wide participation from Pacific communities, especially Pasifika designers, design students, creatives and recent graduates.
“We hope to reach as many creative minds as possible. This is a chance for designers to help shape the identity of a regional movement and contribute to a cleaner, more resilient and more connected Pacific,” says Ms Pokhrel.
The challenge aligns with long-term regional goals to build a circular economy that protects the environment and sustains Pacific futures.
