Charlene Tafuna’i: Jewellery and craft
“Bula Vinaka. My name is Charlene Tafuna’i. I was employed at the Air Terminal Services as an aircraft maintenance engineer. Since the Covid-19 pandemic, I recently have been terminated from my job, and I am here at the VOTCITY Flea Market. I started making jewellery and home decor and art and crafts before I got terminated. I really just wanted to showcase my talents and I thought it could be nice to do something different. When I did get terminated, I had this already set up every Saturdays. It was something that we could all do as a family. ‘
– Charlene was one of four members of her family that lost their jobs due to the lockdown brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. While her father has been recalled to work, the Miss World Fiji 2014 began selling her products at Nadi’s VOTCITY Flea Market with her mother and younger sister. She now visits markets around the country and has permanent retail stockists. She is holding her niece, Nirvana in this photo.
